Balmoral School $24 million redevelopment
New buildings and upgrades have been approved for Balmoral school said Mount Albert based National list MP Melissa Lee.
“I am pleased the redevelopment has been approved. Population growth and weathertightness issues have put increasing pressure on Balmoral school.
“Most buildings will be replaced or upgraded including a new two-storey block for years one to six, and a new block for year’s seven to eight,” Melissa Lee said.
Of the current teaching spaces on-site, 23 will be replaced entirely, and another ten upgraded. Nine additional teaching spaces will be added, and the school’s technology block will also be refurbished.
“The $24 million redevelopment will enable Balmoral School to cater for more than 900 children, and provide modern learning spaces for students. The redevelopment will also free up outdoor space, supporting children to be active.
“We are focused on providing the best learning environments and opportunities for children so they can reach their potential,” Melissa Lee said.
Design, procurement and review are expected to be completed by early 2017, when works can commence. The redevelopment is expected to take around 24 months to complete.
The project includes providing expanded learning areas at Balmoral for the Sunnydene satellite school, which caters for special education students. This will enable the two schools to work closely together to meet the needs of these students.
