New Zealand Korean War Veterans Association Conference 2015

Monday, October 19, 2015

It was an honour to attend the 2015 New Zealand Korean War Veterans Association AGM and Conference held 17-18 October 2015 at the Napier Returned Services Association Club Rooms in South Napier, Hawkes Bay.

It had been sometime since I was last in Napier and it was great to be able to meet with my 'Dads' who fought over 60 years ago with the Commonwealth Armed forces and the United Nations.

During my time with the Association I was able to join the official NZKVA Dinner as well as attend the Cenotaph Wreath laying service, held in Clive Square Gardens, Central Napier.

At the Cenotaph, Commander Sandy Herlihy said that "for many this may be the last AGM ...with failing health and advanced years...."

It is important to remember the services of our Veteran Community and active armed forces particulary as those who fought in the largest conflicts are now passing on.

While there are many Ex-armed service communities around New Zealand they mostly meet at RSAs and Community Halls around the country and it is important to connect with them when we can by attending Commemoration Services and ANZAC Day events around the country.

To find out where your local RSA or Ex-service Community Groups are go to www.rsa.org.nz and use the find an RSA App avaliable on the page or get in touch with local chapter officers.
